Two Dimensional Abstract Painting
These abstract paintings have become more a part of my creative, artistic output since 2003. By that I mean 2D paintings, as opposed to the bas-relief paintings that have almost totally occupied my attention for many years. The move to again embrace abstract painting has been an enjoyable one for me. It is an opportunity to fully exploit the opportunities offered by paint and color manipulation, in the manner of "pure" painting. Only implied elements of the third dimension exist in these artworks.
My paintings seldom reflect total non-objectivity. I usually prefer to mix abstract, geometric and non-objective elements into a personal, visual language. This keeps me interested in the surprising outcomes as each work progresses. Work in process is a more accurate description of how my art gets made. Finding the "end" of each abstract painting is very often reaching a place where the view is a "good one." Each creative peak reveals higher ones further in the distance. This description is certainly not a particularly novel one in the art world. It is one that fits my abstract painting experience quite well.
