The Narrative Process of Constructed Landscapes in Painting
My abstract landscape paintings are created in similar fashion to all my artworks - from an abstract - geometric sensibility. I do not practice plein aire painting - directly from nature. I will occasionally use a photograph or draw from nature, when my landscape painting starts to veer so far from reality that various nature-based "symbols" begin to look really odd.The paintings are thus constructed - assembled as a visual language, taking cues from many sources and levels including "objective" reality. Thus, they are only different from my more abstract or non-objective paintings in that they have more visual markers linked to the external world. Other than that, they came into existence as most of my art; through a narrative of process. It is a visual, not a linguistic narrative. Thus, it can be discussed ad nauseum, and never encompassed.
Email me, for the continuing discussion. It arises along with the visual narrative of process, in spite of my attempts to dismiss it.
