Your credit card information needs to be protected. That, in large part, is up to you. I am going to give a general discussion of data protection first, and then a specific discussion regarding Robertterrell.com. There are safeguards in place on the internet. First of all, when you have decided to make a purchase, you will most likely click on a shopping cart. When you arrive there, first of all, check the address field and make certain you see HTTPS. This means you are connected to a Secure Socket Layer, with encryption. I will not get technical here, I will say that there is a high level of coding of your credit card information (all your sensitive information). And the Secure Socket Layer means that oonly you and the computer you are communicating with are "talking." No other computers are listening in on the conversation. This is to prevent a hacker from using a "packet sniffer" program which can grab information off the internet. (Have you ever wondered how you get all the spam?) A packet sniffer grabs email addresses, and other information. If you send credit card information over a regular HTTP: address line, you are taking a huge risk. The packet sniffing hackers are looking for such information. DO NOT DO IT.
In addition to the HTTPS line, you also need to look at the status bar on the bottom of the browser. If you do not have it turned on, it is a good idea, especially if you make online purchases. Go to your Tools menu in IE, or the View menu in Firefox to turn it on. Then, when you are on a secure site, you will see a gold lock
in the lower right corner, or left corner in some browsers. Click on this lock and you will be taken to a screen that gives you shopping cart security information.
These methods are similar to the ones that your bank uses to keep its information safe. If you are still nervous about online shopping, you need to asky yourself why you are not lying awake worrying about your money in your bank? They are sending money across electronic lines, in similar fashion. Hackers are trying to break into bank systems as well. But, if you are still somewhat nervous, you can use the credit card system I use on this website.

My shopping cart is PayPal. If you have a PayPal account (easy, no hassle to set up, no obligations), then you do not have to send your credit card information over the internet each time you use the shopping cart. Your information is securely stored by PayPal. So you make your purchases and the payment is conducted through PayPal. No credit information is transmitted over the internet each time. Only when you first join PayPal. The PayPal shopping cart is still an HTTPS cart, though. You can still rest assured that your transaction is private. My Commitment To Children's Privacy:

If you want to be sure you are on a secure website when ordering online...go to your View menu. In that menu you can access the "status" toolbar. It is one of the options there. The toolbar will appear at the bottom of your browser, on both IE and Firefox.
If you are on a secure website, you will see a gold lock like this: in the status bar.
Click on the lock and you will be taken to special window that gives you the secure site information. Also, if you will look at the website address field, you will notice that it reads https:// and the the name of the website. The "s" after http stands for "secure." That tells you it is a secure, encrypted site (information is encoded) site. The information being sent between your computer and the site (such as your credit card information) is highly encrypted and is what the banks use to make their transactions. If this is not secure enough for you to feel safe, then you may need to rethink how you do your banking. So, you will be safe sending credit card information on these connected lines.
But as I was reading on a PayPal, the shopping cart I provide here, will display the gold lock, on the bottom right hand side of IE and Firefox.
